Tips from the Pros

Follow these proven tips from UMGC faculty, staff, and students who have experienced online classes first-hand.

  • Turn assignments in on time. If you're falling behind or don't understand the assignment, contact your instructor right away. And don't wait until the last minute to post assignments, either!
  • Review graded coursework early, and note areas that need improvement. Plan to incorporate these improvements into future assignments.
  • Review and include any required elements defined in the grading guidelines—such as a title page, line spacing, or word count. Pro Tip: Print the grading guidelines, and check off each requirement as you complete it.
  • Familiarize yourself with deadlines and university policies outlined in your syllabus that may affect your academic success.
  • Be committed to academic integrity—submit your own original work with proper citations for every assignment. Adhere to the academic integrity policy in all your coursework.
